Being able to swap out a base cabinet under a sink in a Universal Design primary bath, allows you to, when your ready, make that sink a wheel under accessible spot at your vanity, even if you are in a wheelchair someday.
We can replace the base cabinet with a front apron design and doors that have the "toekick" build into the door so you can't even tell when the cabinet is closed. But when you open the doors, they have hardware that allows you to return / slide the doors back along side each side of the future cabinet, and there is no base floor to the cabinet itself, allowing us to put scald protection over the pipes (just like we do in commercial architecture ADA restrooms) and the free floor area under the cabinet is integral and continuous flooring with the bathroom itself, so you are free to wheel right under it to use that sink.
When you add to that design, with good lever handle hardware vs. tough to twist knobs on doors and sinks (when you have Rheumatoid Arthritis, for example), and use ADA compliance reach distances and heights in your residential home for "future you", including tiltable mirrors and other features we can easily adapt later, you'll have the freedom and independence you want, in the place you want to stay. Your Home.
That's good Universal Design. It works better for your 6 year old, and your 86 year old. That's a ForeverHOME.
