Take a look at our Aging in Place Product Catalog
Morning everybody. Just wanted to share a little bit about what's coming up at ASA on Aging 2025 this year in Orlando, FL at the Hyatt Regency. The dates are April 21st to the 24th and we were selected with Forever Home as a 60 minute presentation, a breakout speaker for a session room on Tuesday afternoon. It's from 3:30 to 4:30. If you're coming to the event, come see us. We'd love to see you, but just wanted to share a little bit about what we're talking about. So the abstract that we submitted goes like this. Society continues to grapple with ageism's pervasive impacts on all facets of life. Across the US, Age exclusion has deep implications in every category from economics to healthcare, housing to employment, caretaking to community. It is crucial to foster conversations highlighting innovations and solutions for an age inclusive world. Our presentation's going to explore practical strategies and thought leadership in creating age inclusive housing and communities. Our session will demonstrate how we can collectively transform individual lives and entire communities through inclusive and equitable design and advocate for jurisdictional leadership, code changes, and offer social actions to move the needle toward a brighter future wherever you call home. The learning objectives that we're going to go over are understanding the importance of age inclusivity in home design. We'll explore the multifaceted impacts of ageism and ableism in existing home design and spec builder current practices. Then we'll discuss the importance of real world positive outcomes of age inclusivity and equitable design in home and community. Next, we'll talk about innovations in aging in place and the future of housing solutions. We'll discuss designing empowered and flexible home solutions for aging populations. We'll even bring you case studies, some of which I've designed and built, that are real life examples of successful aging in place implementation both at the individual home design and in the community living setting. And then finally #3 we're going to talk about advocacy and local social actions. We'll give you strategies to advocate locally for your age inclusivity at the community, state, and national levels. And then we're going to talk about engaging stakeholders at local level, organizations and activities to require and inspire social action and policy change that's needed to make this reality into our built environments. So again, my name's Aaron Murphy. I'm the owner of foreverhome-us.com, and I'm also a licensed architect in Washington state with 30 years of experience in architecture and over 2,000,000 square feet of commercial buildings, which inherently have the ADA code built into them. If you're in a wheelchair, you can go to the bathroom and a bank. Housing does not have that. There's a small percentage of apartments and multifamily that require it, but it's not going to be enough as the code is written today, because we're about to have more 65 year olds and we have 18 year olds for the first time in the history of the world. We're living longer and we're having less children. That is going to become and is now a caretaker crisis on top of the housing crisis. The millions of doors that we are short in the United States, coupled with boomers living longer, not selling their homes, not moving out because of the fact that they don't want to move. 90% of AARP polled first time say they'd like to age in place. So we have to fix our existing housing stock and we have to start building different. If you want to learn more about what we're doing, come see us at this presentation. If you need this presentation given to your organization or your conference, get a hold of us. I'll put that info in the transcript so that you can get a hold of me or Chris at Forever Home.
