Interview Segments Series with our ForeverHome Founder: "Spec Homes are about to be replaced by ForeverHome LongevityPLANS House Designs, with Future Flexibility built right in, for every chapter of your life."
Phase One of our "proof of concept" was our own ForeverHome LongevityPLAN build, which we built in Washington State for $500K, and sold FULL PRICE in NINE DAYS for $800K (which you can see in our other videos). Phase Two is a story of a developer who GETS IT. He's using three of our home designs for all 24 of his housing development PLAT parcels. Why? Because when he came into my office 4 years ago, he dropped 4 rolls of drawings on my conference table, and said "These are Southwest style, make them look Northwest for this state (Washington). I've done 1,300 doors in Las Vegas, I know what I want." My response? "Nice to meet you..." and we sat down for 30 minutes to review his drawings. But at the end of that meeting, I handed him my cards (both for ADM Architecture but also for ForeverHome) and some trifold literature, tucked inside the BOOK I WROTE on Aging in Place. He came back to me a week later, and said "I've read your book. Throw away my house plans, we're doing it YOUR WAY. You are right. This is the FUTURE OF HOUSING."
Spec builders do what they do, so you you get two different roof designs (hips and gables) and you still can "mirror" the basic house plan you submitted with the jurisdiction, change siding types, etc. and make 3 house plans look like 6 or more different homes in a development. BUT it's what we designed INSIDE those same four walls, which makes ALL the DIFFERENCE.
There is a typical 1,500sf rambler style house. There is a 2,000sf mid-scale house for a smaller family of 3-4. There is a 2,500sf house for a larger (or multigenerational) family. EACH of these homes has 44" minimum hallway widths, 36" clearance door widths, and a multitude of other design features that allow your mobility to change and your home, kitchen, bathroom, shower etc. to continue to work correctly and keep you independent and safe in your own home. But in the two story houses we've taken it even further. We've designed those houses TWICE, once for NOW, and once for LATER.
You see, about the time that you would need an ELEVATOR more than you'd need a 4th bedroom or a 2nd car, we've already designed that for you. We've framed in where the elevator will go on both floors, from the garage up to the 2nd level. This allows you to keep your primary bedroom upstairs with the accessible bathroom features for a future wheelchair and a "commercial level ADA" spatial compliance, and we already planned the power and panel for that need when it arises. What was a den/office, or an oversized family laundry room, becomes a smaller stacker washer / dryer layout and a landing area reading nook. Or a downstairs "work from home" office with an exterior entry door, can already be reconfigured for a live-in caretaker with a private bathroom for them. Or a beautiful large walk-in closet can become the elevator hole location above, and the landing below is in the garage, and opens into the family room.
All of these future flexible design features are built right in, so you only have to do interior, non load bearing remodels (no structural walls need to be moved or redesigned or re-engineered) since we coordinated the load bearing walls for the roof trusses upstairs to rely on the walls that would stay in place where they are when you modify your home for your future needs at a later date.
THIS is the FUTURE of HOUSING. This, is a ForeverHOME.
